6 Tea Infusions That Boost Metabolism
We’ve all heard about metabolisms and know every person has one.
For many of you out there, we are aware you’re looking for a way to boost your metabolism, or at least keep it from slowing down too fast. One way you can maintain your metabolism is by drinking the right drinks. This means staying away from processed sugary drinks and focusing on drinking water and tea.
To help you do this, we’ve compiled a list of teas and herbs you can add into a tea infuser that are known to boost metabolism.
How Does My Metabolism Work, Anyways?
To start things off, your metabolism is the process by which the food you ingest is turned into energy for your body to use. This energy is used not only when you’re active but is also used to maintain basic bodily functions like breathing, keeping your heart pumping, and digesting food.
Everyone has a different basic metabolic rate (i.e. the rate at which your body burns calories) based on their gender, genetics, and age.
Around age 30, everyone’s metabolisms start to slow down by about 1% each year. While there’s nothing we can do to stop the ticking of the clock, there are lifestyle adjustments we can make to help mitigate the effects of our slowing metabolisms. Changing what you drink is one such lifestyle change.
Tea Infusions
One amazing benefit about a tea infuser is you can pack it with pretty much anything you want. To help you boost your metabolism, you’ll want to try stuffing your tea infuser with these items.
Green Tea
Green tea has tons of antioxidants that have shown to help loosen fat cells within the body, making them more accessible to be burned.
Black Tea
Black teas tend to contain the highest levels of caffeine, which is great news for your metabolism. Caffeine is a stimulant that can help boost your metabolism to burn more calories per day.
Ginger
Ginger’s claim to fame is its anti-inflammatory properties and is commonly used to treat nausea, indigestion, and treat joint pain. Other studies have shown ginger might help with regulating blood sugar levels. You can buy ginger root in the produce section or dried and ground in the spice section at the grocery store.
Cinnamon
Cinnamon has shown to help lower bad cholesterol, lower sugar levels, and enhance the body’s sensitivity to insulin. You can find ground and whole cinnamon in the spice section of the supermarket.
Cayenne Pepper
Cayenne is a warming spice that can help boost your metabolism by increasing thermogenesis. In addition to increasing metabolism, cayenne is loaded with vitamins to help improve vision, cell growth, and suppresses hunger.
Ursolic Acid
Ursolic acid is a compound found in many fruits and herbs we regularly consume like apple peel, cranberries, peppermint, lavender, and thyme. This compound has been shown to increase muscle mass and decrease white fat stores.
Recipes
Cinnamon and Apple Peel
Add half of a cinnamon stick with as much apple peel to a tea infuser and steep for 4-5 minutes in boiling water. Feel free to use ground cinnamon if you don’t have whole cinnamon sticks on hand.
Cayenne Pepper, Green Tea, and Honey
Add loose leaf green tea to a tea infuser and steep for 3-5 minutes. Once you remove the infuser, add a small pinch of cayenne pepper and 1-3 teaspoons of honey depending on your taste.
Peppermint and Lemon
Add loose leaf peppermint tea, or fresh peppermint leaves to a tea infuser and steep for 4-5 minutes. Stir in lemon juice and your preferred sweetener if desired.
Black Tea and Pineapple
Add loose leaf black tea and a small pineapple chunk to your tea infuser. Steep for 3-5 minutes depending on how strong you like your tea.
Ginger and Pineapple
Add a slice of ginger and a small piece of pineapple to a tea infuser and steep for 5 minutes. Add any sweetener if needed.
Lavender and Chamomile
Add dried lavender and loose leaf chamomile tea to an infuser and steep for 3-4 minutes.
