Craft Ideas For Birthday Presents

Birthday Presents

When was the last time you made someone a gift? Not just bought, but actually made from scratch? If you have images of burnt cookies and gaudy Christmas sweaters bouncing in your head it’s time to erase them.

There are some awesome, easy and inexpensive do-it-yourself gifts out there that will wow your loved ones. Many of these ideas require a wide range of items from beeswax to sewing needles. After going through this list, all you’ll need to go to the store for is gift wrap. Most of these ideas have a lot of room to personalize so we’ll start off by saying, you need to know the person you are making a gift for.

Read on to discover a few of the most creative craft ideas for birthday presents.

Shower Curtain

You’ll need a little bit of sewing skill, but this is probably going to be the easiest do-it-yourself sewing project you’re ever going to find. You’ll need shower curtain hangers that are approximately 72 by 72 inches and basic sewing supplies. Feel free to stencil or sew on fun designs!

Coasters

What’s neat about making your own coasters is that there are so many ways to customize them. You can stencil on images, cut them up to make shapes or words, or if you want to get fancy, carve unique designs into them. These are great for people who have guests over frequently.

Potholders

This one is for cooking enthusiasts who have all the spices and gadgets in the world already. Chances are you’re a little intimidated by their prowess in the kitchen and you’d rather not buy them another cookbook or try to figure out what kind of knife they don’t own. You’ll need a sewing machine for this one, a little bit of padding, and heat resistant fabric. By heat resistant fabric we simply mean fabric that won’t melt when a hot pot is placed on it.

Neckties

Making a gift wrap for a guy can be hard, many ideas tend to be aimed towards women, and the last thing you want to do is embarrass someone with lavender scented candles. Not that men should be embarrassed to get candles, but it happens. All you’ll need to do for this one is go to your local fabric store and pick out some elegant fabric. The rest can be done at a sewing machine in less than 20 minutes.

Custom Mugs

You can never have too many mugs. You don’t even need to have any craft skills for this one! You can go to you local craft store, and chances are they’ll have kits with everything you need, mugs included.

Instagram Calendar

This will take you some time, but if your friend is an Instagram fan, they are bound to laugh when they see it. The premise is simple: go through their Instagram account, pick out the funniest 12 images they’ve posted, and print them out. You can find blank calendars online to print as well to pull it all together.

Beeswax Candles

No do-it-yourself craft list would be complete without a candle item. You can make all sorts of candles, but we recommend using beeswax as a base because it burns clean unlike paraffin candles that release toxic chemicals.

You can add essential oils to your beeswax candles but beeswax doesn’t hold onto other scents well so you either need to choose a strong scent or use more oil. Essential oils like peppermint, lemongrass, and vetiver are strong scents that hold their own when used in beeswax candles.

Craft Your Own Ideas

No matter what kind of recipient you’re looking to gift to, you can be as creative as you want and let your imagination run wild. Surprise your recipient with some handcrafted presents this year!
