Creating A Vintage-Style Bathroom
Bathrooms interior design is usually neglected, since the space is relatively small. However, if your bathroom is well-decorated it can become a warm and relaxing sanctuary. Vintage style is especially elegant and classy and it can provide an ambiance you will simply adore. So, to successfully redecorate your bathroom, you will need to look back at the olden days and change a few things.
Lighting
When it comes to lighting, the fixtures need to be changed a bit. You can install a small chandelier to provide an overhead light. Crystal chandeliers provide an elegant appearance of your bathroom, but don’t go too big. If the fixture is huge it will take up too much space and it will overpower the whole design. As far as individual fixtures are concerned, you should install them on the walls. Search for fixtures that extend off the wall, such as votives, boxy lanterns and globe fixtures and place a few of them in the bathroom. This is an option only if you don’t want to install the chandelier. Such individual fixtures will provide a completely different vibe in your bathroom because of their metal setting; your bathroom will never feel more vintage-like.
Right Materials
Vintage style is all about the right materials. This means no chrome or any other shiny metals should find their way inside. Replace these with more dull metals such as copper, nickel, oiled bronze or wrought iron. Also, the bathroom furniture should be made of wood, but as far as tub and sink are concerned they should be ceramic. As for the accessories, you should opt for smaller wooden pieces and plenty of marble and metal knick-knacks as well.
Change the Tiles
If you wish to achieve the full vintage style of your bathroom, you will have to do some renovating. Plain or colored tiles will not do the trick any more so consider replacing them with marble ones. Marble has a Victorian feel to it and it will dramatically change the atmosphere. However, marble can be quite expensive, but you can find a cheaper solution and go for a marble print. Also, the very shape of the tiles can be changed. You can opt for hexagonal tiles which were introduced in the Art Deco period. If you wish to stay within the borders of Art Deco you can choose hexagonal tiles in brighter hues, but you can also mix the vintage styles together and choose white tiles. However, no matter which update you wish to achieve, you should consult with the professionals for bathroom renovations Sydney and exactly know how to fit everything in nicely.
Vintage Accessories
When buying accessories for your bathroom, you should focus on style and elegance. Search for long-thread cotton towels which are fluffy enough but very absorbent. Your bathrobe can be made of silk and to better fit it into the vintage style you can opt for rose-patterned one. Also, you should provide sweet scents of the older days and include scents of lavender, lemon or rose with soaps and candles. You can even play some soft music from the early 20th century and create a soothing atmosphere.
Furniture
If you wish to have cabinets in the bathroom, you should opt for wooden ones. White plastic or painted wood cabinets contribute more to the modern look, if you choose varnished wood you will create more vintage-like style. Another option is completely skipping the cabinets. Instead of these, you can put up shelves and keep all the towels and products on display. For the most vintage look you can opt for marble or polished wood shelves and enjoy the pre-Victorian vibe. Another piece that every bathroom needs is the mirror. However, your vintage-style bathroom should include a beveled mirror that stands on its own. Early bathrooms almost never had cabinets and sinks with built-in mirrors; mirrors were long and ornamental. Also, the most common frames were metal since they provide a more elegant and antique look.
Complete change of a bathroom design involves plenty of work, but it is worth it. If you always having an an elegant vintage bathroom, this is your chance. Just make sure to pay attention to materials and the overall feel, and your bathroom will look gorgeous and luxurious.
