6 Tips To Make Your Home Kid-Friendly
Most of us wish that our home to appear like those we see in the magazines. Clutter-free space, pretty walls, and fabulous furniture are among the things we want to achieve for our own house. However, if you live with kids, these home wishes are about to change to make it more appropriate with the children.
Having your own place to finally settle in after having kids can be one of the most exciting things, but once you start thinking about decorating it, you start to realize that there are a lot of limitations and restrictions that, as a responsible parent, you should follow for the safety of your child. You can get a DIY playhouse kit and make it for your kids.
Below are some recommended tips to follow when decorating and improving your home to make it kid-friendly:
Use stain repellent fabric.
Let us admit that kids are messy most of the time. It is inevitable that children may rub their dirty little finger on sofa or just wipe it on the linen curtains. To avoid getting your sofa or curtain fabric get dirty and messy, it is recommended that you use fabrics that won’t get in trouble with kids. One example is using Sunbrella fabric that offers hundreds of beautiful options that are completely stain repellent and cleanable. Other options would be leather, ultra suede, and performance velvet.
Use double duty pieces for more storage space.
If you have kids at home, be considerate with putting lots chairs and storage. Among the recommended furniture you can use are storage trunks, side tables with drawers, or dressers as changing tables. Having kids around means more stuff such as toys, diapers, baby clothes. In order to avoid the look of overflowing items at home, find furniture that will act as double duty pieces that will help avoiding unwanted clutter; storage and personal use (chair, sofa, and table). Think of the furniture as functional.
Create kid-friendly walls.
Your walls should be according to your lifestyle but not with kids around. Washable paint could do the trick. Mild soap and damp rag will clean up some paint in eggshell, satin or semigloss. Flat paints have a feature of touch-up painting without the presence of brush marks. Other paints recommended for your home and gives kids to safely write on the walls are magnetic, chalkboard, and dry erase paints, which are available at local home improvement
Incorporate child-created artwork and books at home.
Your children’s artwork promotes creativity and artistry in their minds, inspiring them to be striving more. Books are also important part of your home because it encourages comprehensive reading for the kids and eventually, it will be part of them until they starting to go to school.
Consider the use of flooring at your house.
White shag rugs are not recommended when you are living with the kids. When kids are around, it is recommended that you use hard surface flooring, durable sisal or wool rugs, or patterned outdoor rugs. Wool and sidal are natural fibers, making them easy to clean up. There are also colourful and beautiful indoor/outdoor rugs that are comfortable underfoot.
Create a play area on your living room.
Add an easy to reach and stylish storage for your kids’ toys in the living room. So if they want to play, the toys are within the reach and the storage is functional as well like it could be use as a chair. In this way, your kids can enjoy sitting and playing with games and toys, and easily store their things when it’s time for clean-up.
